The recent events surrounding New York's Gov. Eliot Spitzer's admission that he's been a sex worker client has ignited a national debate about the entire sex worker industry. This has the potential of being the best opportunity we've ever had to demsytify and de-mythify sex work in America.
The presidential candidates are taking a wait and see approach, and while we suspect those comments will be conservative (and most likely misinformed or tweaked for spin), it's important to write to your presidential candidate and state and local representatives to let them know what you think.
Here's more from Desiree Alliance:
There are dozens of articles where we can go comment. Check out the articles and read what people say in the comments. Don't be afraid to say whatever you want, that's the point of comments sections. Just reading through the comments will definitely fuel your desire to speak up. There are really stupid people out there and if we don't speak up, then thousands of people are going to the NY Times article and only seeing that perspective. This is a valuable opportunity for actual sex workers and our friends to be heard on these issues.
